History and Tradition

● The school mascot is the Spartan, so we are known as the Spartan Battalion

● The school colors are GREEN and GREY

● WSHS JROTC’s program was the first to be granted authorization for an Honors JROTC class in the city.  The class is selectively chosen from the top LET II - IV's

● Our JROTC program is ranked number one in the city and is an Honor Unit with Distinction

● The Spartan Battalion is composed of roughly 200 cadets every year

● JROTC is an elective course that is taken for two years to cover the Lifetime Wellness credit needed for graduation.  If taken for a third year it counts as the U.S. Government credit also needed for graduation. Fourth year cadets receive an elective credit that goes towards the 21 needed for graduation.

● The Spartan Battalion offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities:

● The Spartan Battalion has social events, such as the Military Ball, a formal dance and dinner for cadets from all grades to meet and greet.  A picnic is also held at the end of the year to celebrate the year’s achievements and provide an opportunity for cadets to get out of class and relax with their fellow cadets.
